CAHPR becomes a Community Interest Company (CIC)
CAHPR Communication – News and Update 06.02.25
In December 2024, the COMMUNITY FOR ALLIED HEALTH PROFESSIONS RESEARCH was registered with companies house as a Community Interest Company (CIC – Company number: 16126068).
The means that CAHPR is now a legal entity. This is important for the future sustainability of CAHPR, it means CAHPR can enter into contracts, manage its funds via its own bank account and raise additional funds.
This, of course, means extra responsibility and greater governance so there will be a few changes going forward.
The CIC status is a holding position until CAHPR is ready to re-apply for charitable status. As a CIC, CAHPR has three Directors: Dawn Carnes (Past Chair of the strategy committee), Gemma Clunie (Current Chair of the strategy committee) and Vimal Sriram (Vice Chair of the ‘trustees’).
Legal responsibility for CAHPR now lies with the Directors, oversight will still be provided by the ‘trustees’, whilst priority setting, strategic direction and policy will still be determined by the Strategy Committee. The twelve consortia (made up of the 24 regional AHP research hubs) will continue to operate as normal and provide support, information, signposting and mentoring to their multidisciplinary AHP hub communities. The research champions will continue to work closely with their local hub and provide information and communication channels between clinical and academic researchers.
The development and operations of the CIC is being undertaken by Dawn Carnes (CAHPR Director) and day-to-day running of CAHPR by Juliette Carter (CAHPR administrator).
Our recently recruited CAHPR Director (August to November 2024) unfortunately had to stand down due to other demands on her time.
Next steps will be the fine tuning the CIC governance, recruiting a permanent Chief Executive Officer and orientating ourselves to align with the conditions for becoming a charitable body.
